Sport´s champions: Pau Gasol

Today I would like to talk you about Pau Gasol. He is one of de best basketball players in the world these days (NBA star with the fantastics L.A Lakers) and in my opinion, one of the best of the spanish history.

He was born in Sant Boi (Barcelona) in 1980, and since he was a child he played basket. He was signed up by FC. Barcelona where he has won two leages (1999 and 2001) and one cup. When he had only 21 years old he has arrived at the NBA, the best basket leage in the world. He has been the second spanish basket player who has played there after the mitic Fernando Martín (He had played in the Portland Trail Blazzers). The other spanish player with more succes at the NBA is José Manuel Calderon who playes with Toronto Raptors.

With Memphis Grizzlies he has played for seven years (until 2008) and there he has broken all the records and all the stadistics. In his first season he has been rockie of the year of the NBA, and after he has played his first All Star and he has taken his team to the Play offs three times.

He was signed up by Los Ángeles in 2009. His help has been very important for the team and essential to win two NBA championships. With Kobe Bryant and Pau the team has one of the best attacks of he NBA, and Lakers have returned to the top, to the magic times when they played masters like Magic Jhonson, James Worthy or Abdul Jabbar.

He is the leader and the soul of the spanish basket team. Pau and their partners and friends José Manuel Calderón, Jorge Garbajosa, Raúl López, Rudy Fernandez and Ricky Rubio, they are all together our ÑBA, the best generation of the spanish basketball. They have all won, the world championship in Japan 2006, the Eurobasket in 2009 and the silver medal in the olimpic games of Pekin 2008 (it remenbered the great final EEUU-Spain in Los Angeles´84).

I would like to emfashize his human and solidarity side. Since 2003 he is ambassador for Unicef , the organization for childhood in the world, and he works actively in favor of children. He has visited many africans countrys like Angola and Ethiopy where Unicef has cooperation proyects, he has built schools and hospitals, he has made some adversiting campaings...

He still collaborates with the pediatric hospital St Jude in Memphis and he donates some money for every point that he gets with his team. In Los Ángeles he collaborates with the pediatric hospital and he is working with the fire deparment of this city talking teenagers about what they must do in case of fire.
